Tank Volume from Gauge Using a Strapping Table Calculation

The tank strapping table is a set of gauge readings and their corresponding observed masses or volumes. The strapping table is specific to the tank and incorporates adjustments for any tank internals. The two types of strapping that are used are the innage and outage strapping. Innage strapping is measured from the bottom tank reference point to the top of the tank. Outage strapping is measured from the top tank reference to the bottom of the tank.Figure 588: Outage and Innage Strapping diagram

The mass or volume quantity at 0 gauge does not have to be 0, it can be a positive value. If this is a Free Water gauge reading, then a 0 reading is always a 0 mass or volume quantity.

The mass or volume quantity for a gauge that lies in between the entries in the strapping table is determined using linear interpolation between the table entries.

The total observed mass or volume is then calculated using Outage or Innage Strapping. For more information see:
