Spherical Tanks

For a Spherical Tank the gauge reading is converted to the total observed volume according to the following equations.

Where:

H = Gauge reading

A = Inside tank radius

V = Total observed volume of liquid for gauge reading

The Gauge reading must be between 0 and 2A (the tank diameter). If a gauge reading is received that is higher than this, the resultant volume is capped at this maximum. The value quality will then be flagged as bad. See Handling Maximum and Minimum Values.

ClosedEXAMPLE: Spherical Tanks

With a sphere of 24 ft diameter, what is the total observed liquid volume for a gauge of 4ft 3in?

H = 4 ft 3 in. = 4.25 ft

A = 24 /2 = 12 ft

V = 600.55 ft3 = 106.96 bbls

The total observed volume is 106.96 bbl.

See Configuring - Spherical Tanks for details on how to configure this tank type.
