Graphic Symbols

Graphic Symbols are visual objects used to represent an Element including all of their properties and behaviors.

A graphic symbol is typically connected to an Element and symbols that are not connected to an Element are static visual objects.

The graphical aspect (image, annotations, animation, and style) of each Graphic Symbol is inherited from the Graphic Template used to represent the symbol.

Each Graphic Symbol that is represented in the display does not clone the Graphic Template but simply refers to its definition. If a Graphic Symbol is edited (moving an annotation, changing color, etc.):

  • a “custom” Graphic Template is created.
  • the Graphic Symbol will reference the “custom” Graphic Template.
  • the inheritance with the Graphic Template is removed.
