Handling Petroleum Assays
Besides predefined chemical species, the Thermodynamics Extension is able to handle petroleum assays by importing the distribution of the different cuts based on the boiling point. These pseudo-components are named as NBP_Degree where degree is the boiling point of the cut in degrees Fahrenheit.
In addition to Unary Properties table components, assay components can be added to the slate.
To add assay components to the slate:
In the top right corner of the window, click the down arrow and select the appropriate assay slate from the menu.
Note: If the assay slate you need is not available, you can create a new one by clicking the Create New button. This action opens the " Import Assay Table" window. See Import Assay Slate for more details.
Locate the component(s) you want to select.
You can use the Database and Assay checkboxes to filter the Available Components list. When checked, it indicates that those types of components are displayed in the list.
You can use the search box below the checkboxes to find a specific component.
Note: Please note that any components currently in the Selected Components list that do not match your search parameters, will be removed from the Selected Components list when you click the search icon or press Enter.
To search with an exact match, contains, starts with, or ends with criteria, select the down arrow in the search box and select the criteria to use.
To refresh the available components box, delete the text in the search box.
Add one or more components to the slate.
From the Available Components list, select one or more components.
Click the ">" right arrow button to move your selected component(s)from the Available Components list to the Selected Components list.
Click the ">>" right double-arrow button to move all the components from the Available Components list to the Selected Components list.
From the Selected Components list, select one or more components to remove.
Click the "<" left arrow button to move components from the Selected Components list to the Available Components list.
- Click the "<<" left double-arrow button to move all the components from the Selected Components list to the Available Components list.
Click the Store Components As down arrow and select whether the fractions should be molar or mass when you configure the components.
This setting is used by the flash to convert, if necessary, to molar when creating and flashing the stream.
(Optional) Check the PI Point Automation checkbox if you want the composition of the crude-oil slate to be read from a PI Tag instead of being read from an input file, or read manually.
When checked, you can select the tag holding the current slate.
Click OK to save your selections and close the window.
