Attaching Symbols

While you can associate two or more symbols in a display, some associations are done automatically depending on your choices in the Modeler Preferences window. For example, an Element that you add to a display can have an associated label.

When you move the master symbol in a display, the subordinate symbol moves too, keeping its location relative to the master. However, you can move the subordinate symbol without affecting the master.

In the first image, the subordinate symbol is directly below the master symbol. In the second image, we have moved the subordinate symbol, however, the master symbol remains in its original location.Figure 919: Moving subordinate symbol without affecting the master

Changing Symbol Associations

To change symbol associates:

  1. Select two or more symbols in the display.

  2. On the Formatting toolbar, click the Symbol Attachments button.

    The Symbol Attachments window opens for the selected symbols.Figure 920: Symbol Attachments window

  3. Click the Master Symbol down-arrow and select the symbol that you want to be the master.

  4. In the list below the Master Symbol box:

  5. Check the checkbox for each symbol you want to be a subordinate of the master your have chosen.

  6. Remove the check from the checkbox of each symbol you do not want to be a subordinate of your chosen master.

  7. Click OK to save your selections and close the Symbol Attachments window.
