Upgrade PI Data Archive to 2018 SP3 Patch1

When upgrading to PI Data Archive 2018 SP3 Patch 1, any COM connectors used must be replaced by PI Interfaces. This raises several issues that must be considered prior to planning the upgrade:

  • Does the COM Connector have a corresponding interface to replace it?

  • Where will be Interface run? It should not be on the PI Server itself.

  • Is historical data important?

    If so:

  • What is the plan to backfill PI with the historical data?

  • Is there sufficient disk space to hold the back-filled data?

  • How will the archive backups policy be?

Additional administration and policy issues must be considered for:

  • Managing archives
  • Monitoring archives
  • Deciding on scan rates
  • Number of instances and scan classes required
