Installation Prerequisites
Prior to actually installing Sigmafine Server and Client, there are some prerequisites to consider, such as system requirements (hardware and software) and the list of install kits required.
The system requirements (HW/SW) for a Sigmafine system are provided in the \related topics.
The suggested architecture for a production Sigmafine system is to target 2 servers:
- Sigmafine Application Server (also called Sigmafine Server)
- Sigmafine Database Server (also called SQL Server) based on Microsoft SQL Server
Knowing how the Sigmafine infrastructure is configured will help to determine the right system selection. For example, if the infrastructure is installed with the Sigmafine Server and the SQL Server on the same machine, there could be performance issues where both Servers might compete for resources. In this scenario, it is recommended that you use a server x64 machine to help with performance. Additionally, when sizing the Sigmafine system, the number of elements needs to be considered. If the system is considerably large (over 6000 elements), then this must be taken into consideration for the system.
Important Note: Sigmafine is built upon OSISoft PI-AF platform. PI-AF platform requires an instance of Microsoft SQL Server, and it does not support Oracle or another relational database management system.
