Calculate Statistics - Severity

Severity is a diagnostic measure that indicates the magnitude of an error (measurement or balance). Use severity to identify likely problems, provided they are caused by gross measurement errors, not random errors.

Sigmafine uses two diagnostic tests (Test1 and Test3) to determine severity. For example, if a flow connecting two process units has a large correction and the two process units at either end also have a large balance error (Test3 > the absolute value of 1.0), then Test1 for the flow is multiplied by the Test3 values from each process unit to determine the severity.

Severity distinguishes problems that have supporting evidence from those that are anomalous or caused by another major measurement problem.

If a flow does not connect to an element, then Test3 is assigned a value of 1.0.
