Operating System Requirements
Sigmafine 4.7 R2 is compiled for use with PI Asset Framework 2.10 or later and is not backwards compatible with previous PI AF versions. Please refer to the “PI AF 2.10 Compatible Operating Systems” table for details on PI AF 2.10 compatible operating systems. We highly recommend using 64bit operating systems with Sigmafine products, but operating systems later than Windows Server 2012 R2 should be 32bit compatible for PI AF 2.10.
PI AF 2.10 Compatible Operating Systems
| Operating System | PI AF Server 2.x Supported | PI AF Client 2.10x Supported |
|---|---|---|
| Windows Server 2022 | Yes | Yes |
| Windows Server 2019 | Yes | Yes |
| Windows Server 2019 Core | Yes | AF SDK and command line tools only |
| Windows 11 | Test Only (64 bit only) | Yes (32 and 64 bit) |
| Windows 10 | Test Only (64 bit only) | Yes (32 and 64 bit) |
This table is based on the posted PI AF System Requirements for PI AF 2018 SP3 (2.10.6) and PI AF 2024.
Operating System Setup Notes
- You can use Microsoft client operating systems such as Windows 11 or Windows 10 to test and evaluate the server only. However, these platforms are not supported for Sigmafine Server production environments.
- Operating system features:
- Microsoft Remote Desktop for Remote Access and Management enabled
- Microsoft COM/COM+ features enabled and automatically started
- Microsoft DTC (MSDTC) enabled and automatically started
- The server must be configured with the role of APPLICATION SERVER. No other role like ACTIVE DIRECTORY, domain FILE/PRINTER, DNS/WINS, DHCP or FTP/MAIL server.
Virtualization Support
Sigmafine is supported in virtualized environments. Sigmafine supports and is certified for use with VMware ESX and vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
System security:
- Any Windows-certified Antivirus software for Windows server can be used. The antivirus should be configured as follows:
- The internal Windows Server firewall must be disabled or open on ports TCP/IP 545x
- The antivirus scanning engine must exclude Sigmafine installation folders and belonging subdirectories
- The antivirus scanning engine must be configured to skip the COM/COM+/ActiveX and automation scripts blocking functions
- The internal Windows Server firewall must be disabled or open on ports TCP/IP 545x
- The Automatic feature of Windows Updates must be disabled
- Before applying any Microsoft Windows Server patch or hotfix system administrators must review the compatibility and contact Pimsoft technical support at: Sigmafine.support@pimsoftinc.com
Date / Time Settings
- Time-Zone: Set the same time-zone of the domain controller
- Daylight savings settings: automatic management by Microsoft Windows
- The server should not be kept synchronized with the Domain Controller clock in order to avoid any kind of conflict with the daylight savings transitions.
User and Language Settings
- The server software language should be set to "English Standard - United States" for all management users and also for the Windows "System/Default User"
- In order to run software setups successfully, a user account with administrative privileges should be created.
Network Settings
- The Sigmafine server relies on a proper network configuration over TCP ports 545x to run successfully. TCP/IP must be installed and configured with a static IP configuration (no DHCP allowed) before installing licenses.
- A standard installation uses host name lookups for client access logging and validation. It is important for performance and security to configure a stable and responsive DNS service. A slow name service can dramatically impede Sigmafine Server and in some cases cause it to fail.
- All of the SNMP and network monitoring agents should be installed and activated
General / Machine Settings
- The Sigmafine Server makes aggressive use of physical memory and disk resources. So, the server will be configured similar to standard RDBMS server applications (Windows Server profile: “Application Server”).
- If the server's processor has hyper-threading features, it must be enabled in the system BIOS.
